Merits: Striking Looks

Russell can apparently exert some control over machines, causing them to operate via normal functions.

Russell has also shown an ability to read the ‘colors’ of different people, and thereby can sense their emotional state.

Bio:

Quick Observations:

Russell is an attractive guy that does not know it. He often dresses plainly, but the few times recently he had purchased his own clothes they were older, dated styling uncommon for the area (but perhaps retro).

Back in the old days, Luke and Paul would have known Russell to be polite and friendly. A little plain and simple, he was very open and honest with everyone. He was easygoing and happy to defer to others for decisions of consequence. He had a very big heart and was always there for people whenever he could, but also soft spoken and somewhat shy outside of his comfort zone of work and workmates.

After the encounter with Dexter and his new lease on life, Russell has changed.

After settling in to his new life, Russell still is in many ways similar to how he was – innocent, kind, and inquisitive. Outwardly, he remains as friendly as ever, striving to be nonthreatening and welcoming to any situation he is in or any person that he meets with an infectious excitement. However, to a keen observer this is almost always tempered by a look of sadness or loneliness behind his eyes.

A non-cheerful Russell might appear contemplate, or even aloof and resentful, but this is not something he would ever admit to if asked, and is a rare occurrence if noticed at all.

He is now more confidant in many ways and seems very driven to help. Russell still defers, primarily to Paul, but lately has been more willing to disagree. He has been very quick to trust others, and refuses to give up even when the situation is hopeless. He seems weirdly confidant at times in things he does not know, as if he has to believe that anything is possible.

Historical Background:

As an NSS employee, Russell has always been reliable. A genuinely good guy, he is well liked around the office.

He primarily worked as a desk job, helping in research and to catalog an classify information gathered. He was also trained as a field agent, although that is not his specialty.

Russell enjoys being Mr. reliable. He tried to be a rock that all of his co-workers could rely on in a world where nothing has turned out to be what was expected. If someone needed help moving to an apartment (or cleaning up an unfortunate mess) Russell would be there to help. If a member of a field team was unavailable, he was a reliable backup to fill in where needed. If someone needs a shoulder to lean on, he’s there. Heck, Russell also helped organize impromptu company birthday parties – even when ‘discouraged’.

He actually leads a fairly simple life himself – He grew up locally in nearby Chimacum, and has never traveled outside of the region. After high school, Russell began to work at a local winery in town, a soft-spoken guy who worked hard and would spend the evening in the local bar before heading in. When some of the local patrons went missing, Russell had a hunch and did some impromtu investigating of his own – an investigation that lead him to learn that the things of nightmares exist in this world.

He lives modestly and enjoys tinkering and antiquing – his only real ‘hobby’. He has often confided in his friends that he would very much like to restore a classic american car someday – specifically a rusted up, burned out old 1937 cord slowly wasting away near a half demolished farm down the road from his hometown. Despite that, he certainly has dreams – he’d love the open road, traveling, and seeing Americana as well as the world – but there is time for that later. He does not see his family often – best to keep them away from his job – but they have always thought he could do more with his life then stay in the area. His parents and older brother have often pressured him to move out of the area and do more with his life, but he knows that there is important work to be done – right near home.

Russell is a small town kinda guy with few secrets – generally an open book with those around him. He’s straightforward and honest – rarely arguing with others with the hope that it lays extra weight to his words when he actual does raise his voice.

After a fateful encounter with the werewolf “Dexter”, Russell was assumed KIA – his body was torn and mutilated, strung up on a tree and left to die. Perhaps it was to be a warning to NSS, perhaps it was for his own enjoyment – the reason was important. Russell died. Badly.

His body dissapeared, and his friends thought him lost. A month later he reappeared on the floor of the NSS CIC wearing the same tattered remains of his clothing from the day of his death. Very much alive, Russell has a new respect for life, enjoying every experience as if it were new. He is the same Russell, but different all the same – Russell +, as Luke had said to Adam. The circumstances of his return are still a mystery.

Notes from Luke Winters’s fieldbook:
- clerical agent who died on (one of his?) first assignment
- killed and then brought back
- was offered the choice to live bound to a ghost (Tails)
- Tails was probably a Child of Gaia, definitely a garou
- woke up in a cave with a werewolf who healed him (Petrichor)
- aggressively good guy, seems almost guilty
- Tails talks to Russell occasionally, gives him powers. Russell can control technology, sense and push emotions. Tails can step sideways and take Russell with him
- naive, but really good at improvising in combat situations
- not a coward, surprising for an admin guy
